Taking photos at a zoo is almost like cheating wildlife photography. Just because it’s cheating doesn’t mean I wouldn’t do it! Getting this photo does sort of require me to be in the zoo though. I wanted the dramatic effect of the bars creating a sense of being trapped and the zebra gazing directly in to camera. Any animal with big eyes has a stare that makes you want to help them. Break the zebra free! His gaze is so helpless and piercing. I know they are happy. They honestly don’t know any better than zoo life.
This photo was actually taken on the first day I got to use my new SLR. I hadn’t yet figured out RAW v.s. JPEG. So I would love to get back and try to capture this photo again so I could have the 100% best quality image possible. I still think this is a gorgeous shot.
